CALVERT COUNTY

Scrimshaw Workshop on March 15 (12 to 1:30 pm), located at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, 10515 Mackall Road, Saint Leonard, MD – Join us as we take simple materials (bone and ink) simple tools (sandpaper and scribe) and turn them into something simply stupendous: Scrimshaw! Appropriate for ages 9 and up. Registration is required for each participant. $20 per person, $18 per person for Friends of JPPM members. This program is generously supported by the Friends of JPPM. 

Big Bingo Game on March 16 (11 am to 5 pm), located at Rod ‘N’ Reel Resort, 4150 Mears Avenue, Chesapeake Beach, MD – For just $40, you can enjoy endless fun and laughter as you play your way to cash prizes! Tickets are available at the door on the day of the event, but if you order by March 15th at midnight, you’ll receive a $10 meal voucher for CBQ. 

Beyond the Displays: Artifact Stories on March 16 (1:30 to 2:30 pm), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD – Join Lori for an insightful exploration of the museum’s artifacts, uncovering their origins and significance. Discover the history behind the eagle emblem, learn about the name and source for the pig iron, and explore the significance of the Gov. R. M. McLane name board. Hear captivating stories about WWII’s impact on the Solomons community and uncover hidden pictures within the museum murals. It’s a unique opportunity to delve into local history and see these artifacts in a new light. Learn something new every tour. Included with museum admission. 

Small Business Mixer & Gift Card Raffle on March 18 (6:30 pm to 9 pm), located at Mr. C’s Cigar Lounge, 236 Town Square Drive, Lusby, MD – Join us at Mr. C’s Cigar Lounge for our Small Business Mixer held every third Tuesday of the month. This relaxed gathering offers like-minded individuals a chance to network over cigars in a casual atmosphere. There’s no need for formal attire or agenda – just come as you are and enjoy the camaraderie. Don’t forget to arrive on time for the Monthly Gift Card raffle at 7:30pm, where you can add your newly purchased cigar label to the Lantern for a chance to win! See you at Mr. C’s!

Learn to Make Soap with Rootbound Farms on March 19 (6:30 pm), located at Mully’s Brewery, 141 Schooner Lane Ste 15, Prince Frederick, MD – Join us and Rootbound Farms as Woody shows us how the soapmaking process works…plus offers some of his own AWESOME soap to sell! While you won’t be making soap yourself, come learn from a master and take notes so you can craft your own at home. We’ll have Rootbound Farms soap for sale + Mully’s beer on tap + a free bar of soap for each attendee! No signups needed, but space is limited so arrive early!

Little Minnows: Ship Shape on March 20 (10:15 & 11:15 am), located at Calvert Marine Museum 14200 Solomons Island Road, Solomons, MD – For preschoolers ages 3 – 5, with an adult. This program focuses on one of the museum’s three themes. Join us for story time and a craft, available while supplies last. Sessions are 25-40 minutes. Sign up at the Admissions Desk when you arrive. Meet in Harms Gallery. Included with museum admission.

Gallery After Hours on March 20 (5 to 7 pm), located at CalvART Gallery, 110 Solomons Island Road N, Prince Frederick, MD – Enjoy an evening of art and discussion with the CalvART Gallery artists! Browse various artworks from over 30 local artists and get a chance to gain insight into their creative process. We hope you will carve time out of your schedule to support our community creators!

2025 Open All-Media Winter Show taking place through March 15 (Friday through Saturday, 11 am to 4 pm), located at Mattawoman Creek Art Center, 5565 Upham Place, Marbury, MD – Discover local talent, enjoy stunning art, and celebrate creativity in a cozy, festive atmosphere.

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change taking place through March 23 (Select Dates & Times), located at Port Tobacco Players, 508 Charles Street, La Plata, MD – This celebration of the mating game takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum known as “the relationship.” Through sketches and songs, Act I explores the journey from dating and waiting to love and marriage, while Act II reveals the agonies and triumphs of in-laws and newborns, trips in the family car and pick-up techniques of the geriatric set. Dates & show times vary.

Shamrock 5K Run/Walk on March 16 (8 to 11 am), located at Port Tobacco Marina and Restaurant, 7536 Shirley Boulevard, Port Tobacco, MD – Get ready for an exhilarating charge of emerald energy at our 9th Annual Shamrock 5K Run/Walk! Fueled by Coal Road CrossFit, kickstart the day with the cheerful ‘Lil Leprechaun’ dash at 8 AM, then coast through Port Tobacco’s picturesque avenues. Earn your chance to stand out, with awards awaiting the fleet-footed in each age category. Sotterley Presents: People & Perspectives with Anna Carneal-Davis on March 19 (7 to 8:30 pm), Virtual Event – What happens when you find two runaway ads, 16 years apart, that describe a convict servant with the same name, nationality, trade, and a physical description too alike to ignore? Anna Carneal-Davis will present her research methodology, tracking one man’s journey through Britain’s transportation system leading up to the American Revolution. The case study will illuminate the system of convict servitude in colonial America and pinpoint records in England, Maryland, and Virginia that help illustrate an underrepresented portion of history.
