NANJEMOY, Md. — On Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, emergency crews used all-terrain vehicles to rescue an 11-year-old girl who suffered a head injury during a camp activity deep in the woods off the 10200 block of Riverside Road.
The incident was reported around 12:08 p.m., when 911 callers said another person had accidentally landed on the girl, causing her to briefly lose consciousness. Camp staff guided first responders toward the location, which was described as several minutes’ walk into inaccessible terrain.
Crews requested advanced life support and specialized rescue equipment, including ATVs, to reach the scene. Crews navigated narrow wooded trails before locating the girl, who was semi-alert and complaining of dizziness.
Rescue teams transported her out of the woods around 12:55 p.m., transferring her to medics for evaluation. She was taken to UM Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata with non-life-threatening injuries.
Command was terminated shortly after the patient was brought to safety, and no other injuries were reported.
