Ewan McGregor Expresses Regret Over Not Appearing In Andor

Ewan McGregor revealed that his big Star Wars regret is not appearing in Andor. McGregor portrayed the titular character in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and in the Star Wars prequel movie trilogy. Andor is a Rogue One prequel that tells the story of Cassian Andor going from being a thief to an antihero who fights and bends rules for the Rebellion.
On top of Andor getting rave reviews, the Disney+ series is widely regarded as the best Star Wars entry in many years. As a result, many fans are sad that Andor is over, having ended with its stellar second season. That seems unfortunate for McGregor, however, since he revealed that he wants to join Andor’s cast.
According to Collider, McGregor spoke during a panel at the Fan Expo in Toronto. While speaking in front of a crowd of fans at the event, McGregor revealed that he’d only recently watched Andor with his son and loved it so much that he binged the show. Check out McGregor’s comments below:
“I missed it when it came out. And I don’t know, I always come to things later. It’s just the way I am. If everybody’s talking about something, I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’ll see that later.’ And then when I watch it, you know, a year later, I’m like, ‘This is really good.’ And it was like, ‘Yeah, that’s what we were all saying a year ago.’
But I did. I watched Andor and I watched the first episode of it at home with my little boy, and then I realized what everyone was talking about. And then watched all of the whole of the first season and all of the second season just on my own without him, because I couldn’t wait to get through it all. You know, he watched bits of it with me, but I thought it was great. I really liked it.”
While still speaking at the event, McGregor revealed how badly he wanted to be part of Andor after enjoying it so much. However, he described realizing that he had missed his chance since Andor ended with its second season. McGregor then encouraged Disney to bring Andor back with remarks that seemed half-serious and half-joking.
“And then I got really excited. I was thinking, ‘I think I’m in this timeline. I think I could be in Season 3.’ I was super excited, and then I realized, ‘Oh no.’ So anyway, maybe if there was, I could have squeezed in there, if only.
There’s always a chance that maybe there’s a story that’s happening at the same time where it kind of crosses over. So there’s always a chance if Disney is listening — hypothetically, hypothetically. Come on, Disney. What are we waiting for? Let’s go! What are we doing?”
What This Means For Andor
While considering Ewan McGregor’s comments about Andor and the crowd’s reaction in the above video, there are two main takeaways for the show. First off, there is no denying that there is a passionate desire for Andor to return. After all, the crowd absolutely erupted when McGregor exclaimed, “Come on, Disney.”
The second takeaway from McGregor’s remarks is that the A-list actor seems to sincerely want to be part of Andor. Considering McGregor’s star power, the fact that he is so interested in being part of Andor that he discussed it publicly speaks volumes about the series.
Our Take On Ewan McGregor’s Andor Regrets
During Ewan McGregor’s career, he has accomplished far more than most actors could even dream of doing in a lifetime. Considering all the projects he has starred in, the idea that McGregor would regret not being part of a show almost seems hard to believe. Still, McGregor’s Andor regrets make perfect sense to me.
Like most Star Wars fans, I believe that Andor was an absolute masterpiece. With that in mind, an actor who clearly cares about his craft, as McGregor does, wanting to be part of the brilliant series is very easy to understand.
As a Star Wars fan, I also regret that I didn’t get to see an actor of McGregor’s caliber as part of Andor. After all, Andor had a truly incredible cast, and it would have been great to see them share the screen with McGregor.
