ATV Crash In La Plata Sends 11-Year-Old To Hospital via Helicopter

LA PLATA, Md. — Emergency crews responded to an ATV accident Friday, February 21, 2025, that left an 11-year-old boy injured and in need of an airlift to a trauma center.

The incident occurred around 2:08 p.m. behind a home on Kentucky Avenue, where fire and rescue teams arrived to find a four-wheeler overturned. Despite initial reports of possible entrapment, responders determined the boy had been thrown from the vehicle but was not pinned beneath it.

Emergency medical personnel assessed the child’s injuries at the scene and, given their severity, called for a medical evacuation. Authorities said the boy had been traveling at approximately 30 mph before the crash.

A designated landing zone was set up nearby, allowing a Maryland State Police Trooper 2 helicopter to transport the child to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
