WALDORF, Md. — The Maryland Diaper Bank is inviting Southern Maryland to join in its Biggest Diaper Drive, running now through Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, during National Diaper Need Awareness Week.

This year’s drive could be the one that helps the Maryland Diaper Bank reach a major milestone — nearly 2 million diapers distributed since its founding in 2018. With the community’s support, that goal is within reach, and every donation helps ensure local babies have the essentials they need.

The Maryland Diaper Bank was founded in 2018 by Shelly T., who recognized a gap in resources for families struggling to afford basic essentials. What began as a grassroots effort has grown into a regional network serving families across Charles, Calvert, St. Mary’s and southern Prince George’s counties.

That reach is possible because of its strong network of community partners. Organizations like LifeStyles of Maryland, Judy Centers, Healthy Families, Care Net Pregnancy Centers and many others pick up supplies and distribute them directly to families. Working side by side with these partners ensures that diapers and baby essentials move quickly from storage into the homes where they’re needed most — bringing help, hope and relief to the community.

“Since 2018 we have served our community in phenomenal ways,” Shelly said. “With the help of the community we can reach our goal of giving out 2 million diapers — we are almost there.”

How The Drive Works

The diaper bank is collecting new packages of diapers of all sizes, training pants, wipes and diaper rash cream. Donations can be dropped off at:

Supporters can also purchase from the organization’s Amazon Wishlist or make a monetary donation online. Just $25 covers 100 diapers, helping stretch every dollar into real impact.

“No matter the economic status, every baby deserves to have a clean bottom,” Shelly said.

Why It Matters

Across the U.S., 1 in 2 families with young children struggles with diaper need, according to the National Diaper Bank Network. Without enough diapers, children are more likely to face health issues, and parents often can’t access child care or maintain steady work.

That’s where the Maryland Diaper Bank steps in, working alongside dozens of local organizations to ease the burden. Every pack of diapers donated, every dollar given and every volunteer hour offered moves the mission forward and puts hope directly into the hands of families.

Founder Shelly said it doesn’t take much to make an impact.

“You can do a little bit, but help a lot,” she said.

How To Get Help

Families in need can connect with one of the diaper bank’s community partners, which not only distribute diapers but also provide wipes, training pants, diaper rash cream and other baby essentials. In some cases, partners also help deliver donated hygiene products and postpartum supplies, extending the impact beyond diapers alone.

These organizations ensure that donations collected by the Maryland Diaper Bank make it directly into the hands of families who need them most. A full list of partner sites and eligibility details is available at marylanddiaperbank.org.
