Charles County Youth Orchestra Brings Classical Music To Historic Port Tobacco
PORT TOBACCO, Md. – The Charles County Youth Orchestra (CCYO) is set to perform its inaugural fall concert on Saturday, November 16, at 7 p.m. at the Historic Port Tobacco Courthouse, located at 8430 Commerce St.
The free event is presented by the Society for the Restoration of Port Tobacco and will showcase a range of orchestral and chamber music works.
The program includes pieces by renowned composers, such as Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins, Haydn’s Piano Trio No. 1, and popular works by Pachelbel, Handel, and Tchaikovsky. Dr. Osman Kivrak, CCYO’s director, will also join the performance with Vivaldi’s Concerto for Mandolin by Antonio Vivaldi.
“We are so excited to present our very first Fall Concert next Saturday, November 16 at 7 p.m. at the Historic Port Tobacco Courthouse,” the organization shared on its Facebook page. “Join us to hear beautiful music performed by our very talented students! The concert is free!”
The concert adds to a growing list of events in CCYO’s annual program. In addition to two major concerts each year, the orchestra organizes a Chamber Music Festival, a Concerto Competition Concert, and several smaller performances, including community events like Kris Kringle at the Fairgrounds and concerts at locations such as the Maryland Veterans Museum and the Village Green in Indian Head. The orchestra’s dedication to local arts has recently earned its features in an online film by the Charles County Arts Alliance and on WTOP radio, while two CCYO string quartets were finalists in the Washington Performing Arts Society Misbin Chamber Music Competition in Washington, D.C.
For classical music enthusiasts and supporters of youth arts, the concert at Port Tobacco promises an evening of talent and community spirit, celebrating the dedication of young musicians in Charles County.
