What The Fugitive Doctor’s Season 15 Return Means For Doctor Who’s Future
Could The Mystery Incarnation Lead Her Own Production?
In “The Story & The Engine,” the Doctor is faced with a former acquaintance from his time as the Fugitive Doctor in the form of Abena (Michelle Asante), daughter of the god Anansi whom she was forced to leave behind after winning her hand in a bet. The Fugitive Doctor was still on the Time Lords of Division and felt regretful about taking up Anansi’s bargain and giving her false hope of escaping her father’s games. While Martin’s cameo is brief and quickly resolved, it will nevertheless leave viewers speculating about what her future may be.

Doctor Who Reveals The Fugitive Doctor’s Greatest Secret
Jo Martin’s Fugitive Doctor remains one of Doctor Who’s greatest secrets – but official tie-ins are finally revealing her true origin story!
First revealed in season 12 as an incarnation of the Doctor, who predates William Hartnell’s first, the Fugitive Doctor fled from the Time Lords, but would ultimately be apprehended and have her mind wiped. However, despite having only appeared in a handful of episodes, Martin’s Fugitive Doctor has become one of the breakout elements of Chris Chibnall’s show-running tenure, leading to her being firmly enshrined in the Doctor’s timeline and leading her own audio drama series. With Davies bringing her back to the TV series, many viewers may wonder if there are plans for her in the main series.

Martin’s Doctor Is A Mystery Many Fans Hope To Explore
While a brief cameo from Abena’s perspective, Martin’s return as the Fugitive Doctor is sure to emerge as a highlight of “The Story & The Engine.” The tale focused on their power and the importance of preserving and properly crediting those behind them, and bringing back the one incarnation who neither the Doctor nor audiences understands their full journey seems fitting. There are undoubtedly many stories involving Martin’s incarnation that remain hidden. As such, with the character returning for the main series, many may be eager to see Martin return to Doctor Who soon.
