I recently did a J. Crew Factory try-on on my Instagram with my recent J.Crew Factory summer finds. There are some really cute and versatile pieces that take me from errands to boat rides to dinner out with friends. These include a summer beach sweater and an adorable striped cardigan for chilly summer nights and air-conditioned restaurants.
When it comes to pulling together outfits, there are a few tricks of the trade to help you complete the look.
Here are my top 5 fashion rules:
- Think color, pattern, texture, and shine. These are all the elements that make an outfit visually interesting. Try to add one of each to every outfit.
- When in doubt, dress in the same color from top to bottom and then add a topper in a different color. This works every single time.
- To complete the outfit, add a couple of pieces of jewelry. My personal favorites right now are gold stretchy bracelets like the ones linked below and statement earrings. Layering necklaces of different colors and textures is a great way to add pattern and visual interest.
- Always match your shoes to your purse and belt if you wear one. I am not a belt person, so I mostly skip them.
- Try to buy pieces in the same color family so they all work together to make several different outfits.
