Jordan Westburg has been another young star for the Baltimore Orioles in 2024. He originally missed the cut for the all-star team after voting closed on Sunday evening. Major League Baseball announced Tuesday that Westburg would replace Red Sox third basemen Rafael Devers for the AL reserves. The Red Sox announced that Devers would sit out of the game to nurse a nagging shoulder injury.
Westburg is having a very nice year for the O’s in his first full season in the majors. He’s hitting .281/.328/.834 with 14 homers and 49 RBIs in 83 games. Westburg’s also played at multiple positions on the infield at second and third, showcasing his gold glove talent at both. The Orioles were unsure if Westburg could play third base every day instead of Ramon Urias, who won a gold glove in 2022. Westburg has answered all of those questions and is in the lineup almost every game. He joins a talented infield group that can move all over the field if it’s asked of them.
Fans could tell from the jump that Jordan Westburg was going to be a valuable piece to this Orioles roster. He’s very young like everyone else, but he’s confident and quiet at the same time. Westburg carries himself like a 10-year MLB veteran, and you see his maturity in his at-bats and on defense. Jordan Westburg should have made the all-star team when voting ended on Sunday, but the kid will finally get his chance to join the rest of his teammates in Arlington for the Midsummer Classic.
