Matthew Fox’s Big TV Comeback Is The Perfect Lost Follow-Up After 14 Years
Matthew Fox is making a big TV comeback, finally finding the perfect role to follow up the fame he garnered as Jack Shephard on Lost. The actor rose to fame for his role as Charlie Salinger in Party of Five, the American teen and family drama that ran on Fox for six seasons from 1994 to 2000. Fox’s career took off when he landed the role of Dr. Jack Shephard as a member of the Lost cast after Michael Keaton turned down the role. As the group’s leader, the character made Fox a household name across the country.
Lost was a massive success, with the ABC sci-fi adventure drama running for six seasons on the network. However, its ratings peaked in its third season, as did its inspiration. Ultimately, Lost was canceled after season 6 because its showrunners decided to end it. On the heels of the project wrapping up, Fox’s career faded with it for quite some time. He has had a few roles after Lost ended in 2010, but the actor is executing a hard refresh for his career as he prepares to enter the Sheridanverse.
Yellowstone’s The Madison Marks Matthew Fox’s Big TV Comeback
Fox Was Stranded For A While Since Lost
Matthew Fox will make a big comeback to the small screen in Taylor Sheridan’s The Madison. News that the Yellowstone follow-up cast the Lost actor, who hasn’t featured in a series with the weight of Lost since the sci-fi series ended, is a significant win for the actor. Fox had sparse movie and TV roles throughout the last decade, almost semi-retiring from the business. The series could propel him into a role adjacent to his time in Lost — a solid role in an ensemble cast.
After Matthew Fox stopped playing Jack on Lost, he had three different movies lined up, but none garnered the attention destined to follow the actor after the success of the ABC series. Fox was featured in the historical drama Emperor, the action-thriller Alex Cross, and Brad Pitt’s blockbuster World War Z movie. For their respective reasons, the movie roles didn’t amount to anything near what Fox achieved with Lost. Eventually, Fox retreated from the spotlight to prioritize other interests, such as creative endeavors and spending more time with family.

Why The Yellowstone Franchise Is Fox’s Best Lost Follow-Up
Matthew Fox Will Play Paul In The Madison
According to the report about the Yellowstone spinoff’s latest actor, Fox will portray Paul, officially described as “a self-reliant bachelor who loves the outdoors,” in The Madison. It’s a perfect return to the small screen for the actor, who proved he was perfectly suited for a Western drama after appearing alongside Kurt Russell in Bone Tomahawk. Russell was previously in talks for a leading role in The Madison, but his status is now unclear following Fox’s announcement. The Yellowstone contemporary spinoff boasts a loaded ensemble, including Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, and Beau Garrett.
The Madison
has a vague release window for 2025.
Matthew Fox is ideally suited for The Madison spinoff for a couple of reasons. Sheridan has a way of finding the perfect characters to portray life in “Big Sky” country, and Fox seems to fit the bill in every way. Sheridan’s Paul nicely contrasts Jack Shepherd, who was forced to deal with the outdoors perpetually while stranded on a mysterious island in Lost. With The Madison, viewers can revive their appreciation for the rugged side of Fox’s acting persona featured on Lost while experiencing the actor in a civilized but perhaps no less wild environment – the northwestern mountain state of Montana.
