WALDORF, Md. – The Model UN clubs of North Point and St. Charles high schools recently attended the Model United Nations Training Day at Towson University.

The training day prepares team members for the spring Model UN conference held at the Tawes Fine Arts Cetner at the University of Maryland, College Park, from April 4 to 6.

Before the conference, Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students in Model UN clubs will work in February to solve a simulated global crisis after researching their countries and learning more about global diplomacy. Social studies teachers Hayley Ressler and Jonathan Perry sponsor the St. Charles team, while Liam McCammon, a social studies teacher, is the North Point’s club sponsor.

Model UN introduces high school students to concepts such as international diplomacy and international relations through simulation. The club is a simulation of the UN General Assembly and its other multilateral bodies where students perform an ambassador role while debating topics such as gender equality, climate action and global health.
