Nanjemoy Volunteer Firefighter Honored With George W. Colburn, Jr. Award For Heroism
NANJEMOY, Md. – The Nanjemoy Volunteer Fire Department (NVFD) is proud to announce that Firefighter Chris Windsor has been named this year’s recipient of the ‘George W. Colburn, Jr. Award’. The award is presented annually by the Maryland State Firemen’s Association in recognition of outstanding acts of heroism.
The commendation comes in response to Windsor’s brave actions on June 10, 2023. While off-duty, Windsor happened upon a severe motor vehicle accident, with the car in flames and a person trapped inside. Without a moment’s hesitation, Windsor managed to gain access to the burning vehicle and rescue the trapped individual, moving them to safety away from the flames.
NVFD nominated Windsor for the award in light of his courageous actions. The ‘George W. Colburn, Jr. Award’ is a prestigious honor recognizing firefighters who go above and beyond in their commitment to public safety and service.
