Renewal, Cast, Anime Story, Everything We Know

Season 2 of the Netflix live-action One Piece adaptation is on the way, and there’s already plenty of cast, story, and release date news when it comes to what’s next for Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. Based on the One Piece manga and anime, the live-action Netflix show tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates. The first season saw Luffy get the gang together — despite Zoro and Nami’s initial hesitation — and set out to find Gold Roger’s treasure, the One Piece, on the Grand Line.
Since it’s based on the manga and anime by Eiichiro Oda, there’s already much to discuss for the next season of One Piece on Netflix. The live-action One Piece season 2 would follow the events from the first, which covered the manga’s East Blue Saga. Monkey D. Luffy has sworn to become a great pirate, and by the end of One Piece season 1 is on the way to achieving his goals by getting his own wanted poster, ship, and crew. One Piece season 2 follows the next arc in the manga and anime, the Arabasta Saga, showing the first legs of the Straw Hat Pirates’ journey to the Grand Line.
Live-Action One Piece Season 2 Recent News
3 New Cast Members Join Season 2’s Ensemble
With the epic anime adaptation continue to grow throughout its production, the latest news confirms that three new cast members have joined One Piece season 2. Continuing to flesh out the Baroque Works saga, Broadway star Sophia Anne Caruso has been cast as the devilishly artistic villain, Miss Goldenweek. Proving to be one of the most dynamic baddies in the aforementioned saga, Miss Goldenweek is best remembered for her use of Color Traps in order to manipulate her opponents’ minds.
Joining her will be Mark Penwill as Chess and Anton David Jeftha as Kuromarimo. The former is a key villain in the Drum Island Arc who is known for his dangerous archery skills, while the latter is the fearsome lawman of Drum Island under Wapol’s rule. Each of the three represents another major addition to the larger story arc of season 2, and represents a clear upping of the ante for the sophomore outing.
The Netflix Live-Action One Piece Is Renewed For Season 2
More Straw Hat Madness Is Coming Soon
Netflix has renewed One Piece for season 2. The confirmation came in September 2023, two weeks after the show’s premiere. Netflix renewing One Piece for another season was somewhat unsurprising, though the news was still incredibly well received. One Piece received incredibly positive reviews and has been a hit with subscribers, sitting at 82 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and the audience score is even higher at 94 percent. With the huge success of the series, it seems that Netflix has finally broken the curse of live-action anime, which has long been known to be a difficult genre.
Netflix’s One Piece dropped all episodes of season 1 on August 31, 2023.
Live-Action One Piece Season 2 Production Status
Filming Began In June 2024
Though the news has been rather thin since the show was renewed in September 2023, it has now been revealed that One Piece season 2 went into production in June 2024 and will wrap in December. The visual effects-heavy series will probably have an extended post-production period, meaning the earliest the sophomore season could premiere would be in the latter months of 2025.

The Straw Hat Crew Returns
The Netflix One Piece season 2 cast will most likely bring back characters from the first season in the main roles. Captaining the Going Merry in the One Piece cast as Monkey D. Luffy is Iñaki Godoy, alongside Mackenyu Arata as his second-in-command, Roronoa Zoro. Emily Rudd portrays the ship’s navigator, Nami, and Jacob Romero Gibson plays the crew’s sniper Usopp. Finally, Taz Skylar takes on the role of the chef, Sanji.
Newcomers have already joined season 2’s cast as Baroque Works has been revealed. Leading the team is David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, and he’s joined by Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9. Camrus Johnson has been tapped to play the role of Mr. 5, and he’ll appear alongside Jazzara Jaslyn who plays Miss Valentine. Baroque Works is a collective of villains who are the main antagonists of the Arabasta Saga. Added to the Baroque Works crew are Joe Manganiello as Mr 0., and Lera Abova as Miss All Sunday.
Continuing to flesh out the Baroque Works team, Sophia Anne Caruso will now play the iconic villain Miss Goldenweek, who uses color traps to control the mind of her opponent. Elsewhere, the black and white archer of Drum Island, Chess, will be played by Mark Penwill. Likewise, Drum Island’s most fearsome law enforcer, Kuromarimo, will be played by Anton David Jeftha.
Also expected to return in season 2 are Vincent Regan as Garp, Morgan Davies as Koby, Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Jeff Ward as Buggy, and Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida. There will also be a lot of other new characters that the next season of the live-action One Piece adaptation will need new actors to fill. There are still 3 Straw Hat Pirates due to join the crew in season 2 — Chopper, Nico Robin, and Jinbe (although Jinbe’s appearance may not be until after the next season).

Live-Action One Piece Season 2 Story
The Arabasta Saga In Live-Action
It looks like the live-action One Piece season 2 story will probably finish off the Loguetown Arc and then continue on to the Arabasta Saga, which is the second saga of the Manga following the East Blue Saga. When it comes to finishing off the Loguetown Arc, the Straw Hats will have to battle Captain Smoker, which was teased in the season 1 finale, but also have to fight off enemies wanting the bounty. Monkey D. Dragon is also introduced here.
the eventual introduction of the evil Baroque Works leader Crocodile, who is part of a massive civil war in Arabasta.
As for the Arabasta Saga, this had 117 chapters, so it is unclear how much will appear in the Netflix One Piece season 2 story. Of course, the East Blue Saga was 100 chapters and only has the last section remaining to play out. As for big moments that the Straw Hats could face, these include their ship getting swallowed by a giant whale, the introduction of Mr. 9 and Ms. Wednesday (both from Baroque Works), an island full of dinosaurs, and the eventual introduction of the evil Baroque Works leader Crocodile, who is part of a massive civil war in Arabasta.
