LEONARDTOWN, Md. – The St. Mary’s County Board of County Commissioners approved the proposed ordinance to repeal and reenact Chapter 203 entitled “Building Construction” and repeal Chapter 223 Article IV entitled “Inspection Fees” with amendments during their June 25, 2024 meeting.

The effective date of the approval is expected to be no sooner than July 15, 2024, in order to give The Department of Land Use and Growth Management time to provide a notice to the state as required by law, according to Jessica Andritz, the director of land use and growth management.

The Department of Land Use and Growth Management proposed to repeal Chapter 223 Article IV  which charges “Inspection Fees” since they are no longer needed, according to Andritz.

Once the amendments are approved, the director of land use and growth management will appoint a building code official.

Commissioners also approved a request for a public hearing for the Amendment of the Comprehensive Water and Sewer Plan on July 16. The public hearing will focus on the project at Villages of Clark’s Mill.

The development has 18 townhouse units and was approved by the planning commission on May 20.

The hearing will change the water service category from W-6 to W-3 as the developer intends to bring water service to the property sooner rather than later, Andritz said.
