LEONARDTOWN, Md. – Registration is still open for St. Mary’s County History Day until March 1st, 2025. If you are new to the contest, St. Mary’s County History Day is a district-level contest associated with Maryland History Day and National History Day. It is an opportunity for 4th through 12th grade students to do self-guided research and create projects about topics that interest them. Winners of St. Mary’s County History Day receive awards and middle and high school winners advance to the state level contest.

The contest encourages students to explore topics that interest them related to a particular theme – this year’s theme is “Rights and Responsibilities in History”. Participating students gain valuable skills, including navigating research, synthesizing information, problem solving, effective communication and public speaking, and more. These are skills that they can take with them throughout the rest of their education and into their careers to ensure success.
