Corvette Knievel: Indictment Details Of Fatal Mechanicsville Car Crash That Killed Lusby Woman
LEONARDTOWN, Md. – Michael Anthony Carlucci, a 49-year-old resident of Waldorf, Maryland, has been indicted by a grand jury in St. Mary’s County for his involvement in a tragic car crash that occurred on May 31, 2023, near the intersection of Three Notch Road and Laurel Grove Road. The crash claimed the life of 33-year-old Jaleisa Wilcox of Lusby and led to serious injuries for others involved.
According to the investigation conducted by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit, Carlucci was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Corvette southbound on Three Notch Road at the time of the collision. The Corvette struck the rear driver’s side of a 2000 Toyota 4Runner driven by a Hollywood resident, before also striking a 2008 Toyota Camry operated by Wilcox. The impact caused all three vehicles to crash into an earthen berm, with Carlucci’s Corvette and Wilcox’s Camry overturning, while the 4Runner crossed into the northbound lanes.
Wilcox was pronounced deceased at the scene by first responders, while Carlucci was transported to Capitol Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries due to the severity of the crash. At the scene, one adult male suffered serious injuries and was flown to a trauma center with significant upper-extremity injuries. Additionally, one individual was reported to have been trapped under an overturned vehicle, further complicating rescue efforts.
Speed is believed to have been a significant factor in the crash. Witnesses told authorities that Carlucci’s Corvette may have been racing another vehicle, possibly a dark gray or black newer model Ford Mustang with stripes, before the collision occurred. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office subsequently issued a BOLO (Be on the Lookout) alert to nearby law enforcement agencies in an effort to locate the other vehicle involved in the alleged race.
Following the crash, Carlucci was indicted on multiple charges, including felony negligent manslaughter by vehicle, criminally negligent manslaughter, and driving at an excessive and imprudent speed. The felony charge of negligent manslaughter carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Criminally negligent manslaughter, a misdemeanor, could result in up to three years of imprisonment and a $5,000 fine, while the traffic violation carries a fine of $130.
The case is expected to proceed through the Circuit Court in St. Mary’s County, where Carlucci will face trial. The tragic incident, which resulted in the loss of Wilcox’s life, serves as a grim reminder of the potential consequences of reckless driving.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing as authorities seek additional information from any witnesses who may have seen the collision or the events leading up to it.
